Color Management for PDF/X
JOIN US this Thursday, March 25th for a Color Management for PDF/X presentation by Matt Beals. Matt has been in the printing and publishing industries since he was 16 years old. He got his start as a service bureau pre-press technician where he specialized in troubleshooting and fixing files that would not output. From there he moved up to a preflight specialist for a large commercial printer and eventually worked his way up to a director position for a magazine publisher where he was responsible for all prepress, printing, and mailing services.
Since then he has specialized in PDF-based workflows and workflow automation. He has been recognized as a PDF expert and automation expert, spoken at numerous industry (IPA & Seybold) and Printing Industries of America (PIA) events and actively participates in many public and private user forums.
The areas Matt will cover are:
- PDF/X-1a:2001/3, PDF/X-3:2003 and PDF/X-4.
- Preflighting PDF’s - Adobe Acrobat, Callas, Enfocus
- Preflighting images - Humans and Elpical Claro
- Automatic image processing - Elpical Claro
- Automation, tying it all together - Enfocus Switch
Matt has also specifically asked attendees of his event to supply him with good example, or problematic files:
- RAW images off the camera of varying scenes such as high key, low key, low contrast, flesh tones, high ISO images.
- Anything with embedded IPTC metadata.
- Images with too high of ink coverage.
- PDF’s with transparency, PDF’s with multiple icc profiles, wrong output intent, files from “office applications”, etc.
This will help give Matt some real-world examples in his presentation and demonstrations. You can send these at anytime up to 24 hours before the event by emailing them to matt@pnwcmug.com
